Whether you’ve been a homeowner for awhile or you have just bought your first home, there are a few things you need to do. These tips can save you time and money in the future.
Photography
Hopefully you never have to deal with an insurance claim for your home but you should be prepared just in case. Photographing your belongings can make insurance claims a little less of a headache. It’s even easier if you are able to create and keep an updated spreadsheet of your items with their approximate cost. Saving it to a cloud account may help in the case that other copies get destroyed.
Schedule
Make a schedule for cleaning and seasonal updates then stick to it. Furnace filters need changed at least every 90 days, possibly more often depending on pets and family size. Smoke detectors should be tested once a month and batteries changed once a year. Having a calendar for these types of chores can help you stay on top of them.
Save Receipts
Keep the receipts for your home improvements, they can come in handy when you decide to sell. Saving the receipts from improvements such as replacing a roof or new siding may be able to help you save on future taxes. You will also be able to make sure you can get out of the house what monies you put into it when you sell.
These tasks may seem daunting at first but once you start the process, the upkeep is so easy. Have any more tips for homeowners? Send us a message and we’ll add it in!
