Living the Green Life
Fixtures & Appliances

According to a recent survey, 3 in 10 Americans admit to feeling guilty about not living a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.

But the fact is, most Americans can begin a more friendly relationship with the environment without resorting to tearing down their houses, or depleting their savings.

Choose High-Performance, Energy Saving fixtures and Appliances
When it is time to replace old or worn out fixtures, faucets and appliances look for high-performance, energy saving models.

They do cost more, but don't go into sticker shock when you're looking at ENERGY STAR efficient appliances and WaterSense fixtures. Research shows that the savings in energy cost means you can't afford not to buy them.

WaterSense™ and Energy Star® labels identify those products that meet or exceed EPA standards. Comparing models is easy when you know how to read the Energy Label.

WaterSense Label
Look for the WaterSense™ Label

Products bearing the WaterSense label are generally 20 percent more water-efficient than similar products in the marketplace.

In the past, water conservation generally meant poor performance toilets and faucets. No More!

The WaterSense label will help you identify high-performance, water-efficient products and professional certification programs that embrace and encourage the use of water-efficient design.

The WaterSense label is a certification mark identifying a water-efficient product that has been independently tested to meet the EPA WaterSense criteria for efficiency and performance.

Switching to WaterSense labeled bathroom sink faucets or faucet accessories could save your family enough water annually to do 14 loads of laundry.

Currently the WaterSense program extends to irrigation systems, high-efficient toilets and bathroom sink faucets. A WaterSense standard is being developed for showerheads.

EnergyStar Label Look for the ENERGY STAR® label

This Certification Mark is used as a label on products, homes, and buildings that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® performance guidelines.

Energy efficient choices can save families about a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features, style or comfort.
Why choose ENERGY STAR® products?

Simply put, there's a direct link between making smart energy wise choices in new appliances and the amount of money you'll save on your energy bill.

What's more, using less energy is also good for the environment.

If looking for new household products, look for ones that have earned the ENERGY STAR. They meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA and US Department of Energy.

Energy Guide Lable
Know How to Read an Energy Guide Label

The EnergyGuide label gives you two important pieces of information you can use to compare different brands and models when shopping for a new appliance:
  1. Estimated energy consumption on a scale showing a range for similar models
  2. Estimated yearly operating cost based on the national average cost of electricity.
This is the only place you will find the hidden price tag of a product ... the cost of energy to operate that product over its lifetime.
