Come Play in My Garden

When porcelain sinks and toilets were first installed in homes across America, they tended to be plain white fixtures with few distinguishing characteristics. Consequently, many such units from 50 years ago still look presentable in today's homes. The ones that were made with trendy, stylish colors and designs date themselves to the era in which they were installed. While it's not too difficult to replace them during a remodel, most people would rather not do that.

Lav Garden - just a few of the many lavatory designs available

Today, colors abound, for sure, but in a different way. While most basic fixtures are white, they are painted or trimmed with every color of the rainbow. Sinks are now almost considered to be artworks. In our showroom, our "lav garden" looks like a bed of flowers, so diversified are the offerings of colors and patterns. Glass and vessel sinks in both clear and colored glass are also available, accompanied by decorative traps, grid drains, and angle stop valves in various finishes.

Vanities are being de-emphasized in preference for pedestal units or hanging bowls, but when they're used they often include metal wrought iron or chrome legs and trim. In other cases, full-wall cabinetry is being installed with countertops that serve multiple purposes. Some even hold coffee makers and microwaves. Here, people are afforded an opportunity for creativity.

Note wall mounted flush mechanism Toilets are closeted now, hidden from view, as master baths take on the image of a health club or spa. In some cases, the water storage tanks are even being concealed inside walls. They are still offered in a variety of styles, including one-piece units and European designs, and many sport decorative trim. Specific models are matters of personal preference or site needs. Bidets have become passé because floor space is needed for whirlpools and saunas, and because showers are preferred. Regardless of choices, however, the emphasis is on elegance and classic design.
