No longer just "necessary rooms", bathrooms are becoming health pavilions, rich with amenities and luxury features formerly associated only with the super-rich. Car wash showers, massaging whirlpools, therapeutic saunas and steam units, and designer lavs are the most notable features seen today, but there is still more coming.

Telephones are now considered to be standard equipment in bathrooms. We're also seeing wet bars and coffee makers being installed, as well as televisions and audio equipment, intercoms, and even exercise equipment. Medicine cabinets have become much more elaborate and luxurious. Laundry areas are starting to be built adjacent to baths, which prove to be quite convenient; separate dressing areas are also popular. Even fireplaces are being added to create the ambiance of a mountain retreat.

Mirror defoggers, towel heaters, decorative exhaust fans, digital scales, central vac outlets, and even floor warmers are being installed with regularity. Bathrooms are beginning to rival kitchens as the centers of technological innovation on the home front. In the years to come, bathrooms will incorporate more and more lifestyle features geared to individual needs and desires.

The bath of the future will be brimming with luxury equipment designed to soothe the savage beast in all of us.
