Kohler's Russian Teacup Pedestal Lavatory Sinks/Lavatories
Pedestal Lavatory

Pedestal lavatories/bathroom sinks feature a basin (bowl) that is positioned at a comfortable standing height and rests on a pedestal base that conceals the drain and supply lines.

These lavatories are most often made from vitreous china, but can be found in porcelain coated steel. For a truly custom lavatory, these sinks can be bronzed. For detailed information on sink materials, see: Comparison of Sink Materials

Pedestal sinks are available in styles ranging from contemporary to Victorian. In a large bathroom, they create a focal point. In a small bath, their slim profile visually enlarges the space.

However, most provide little or no counter space and no storage at all below the sink. Adding built-in shelves or a closet to the room will compensate for this, and may provide even more storage than a vanity would.

Unlike vanities, which allow a certain amount of leeway, pedestal sinks require specific placement of supply lines and drainage lines, so they should be selected prior to construction.

Faucets
Pedestal lavatories are available with pre-drilled faucet holes with 4" center, 8" center, or single hole. Be sure to select your lavatory before selecting your faucet. Read more about selecting faucets

Shapes and Styles
Par 5 Pedestal from Mansfiled Pedestal lavatories are available with round, oval, rectangular or square basins. Sink heights generally range from 28" to 35", and widths from 16" to 24 1/8"

Pedestal lavatories can be smooth, fluted, sculpted, and hand painted, with or without metallic trim. In most cases the pedestal matches the basin. However, some manufactures provide for a mix-and-match set.

Pedestal lavatories also lend themselves to theme baths, such as the PAR 5 pedestal lav by Mansfield, shown above with matching Putter Faucet. The Par 5 Golf Pro vitreous china pedestal lavatory is designed for the die hard golfer. The specialty "Putter" faucet, 8" center set, is available in Chrome, Polished Brass and Satin Nickel.
